I'm feeling the CRUNCH of finals/papers

feeling very very unmotivated to work on my paper draft that is due tomorrow. Am I distracting myself right now? YES!

April 4: 420 final paper draft due
April 8: get braces off! 420 oral exam on my gene (it's like have 2 different kinds of oral exams!)
april 10: 499 oral presentation practise talk
april 11: 420 lab final
april 14: 499 oral presentation, 420 lab books due
april 18: 418 final, 420 final paper due
april 25: 499 final paper due

THEN I WILL BE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

ehhhhhh so I am back from the conference. Overall I don't regret going. One of the upsides was getting to know some of the other students in the department better (only me + another girl were undergrads, the rest were masters/phd students). It was good interaction despite the fact that I'll be gone in less than 2 months. I was sitting beside my prof for both plane/car rides. I discovered her love for LotR.........!

I had a bad encounter with one guy at my poster. I think he expected more out of my poster talk, but he probably didn't realize that I was an undergrad. He criticized my title and at the end, said "is that all?" in a somewhat condescending manner. I was a little upset about that, but got over it pretty quick as soon as I realized how much more pleasant and fashionable I was, HAHA. Long blond BRAIDED hair....

Some people had awful posters. As in... powerpoint slides printed out and tacked onto a board. Some people just had really weird letter spacing. One girl had a really interesting "poster" which consisted of figures/descriptions printed on heavy cardstock. With that, she could swap in/out information as she pleased! I thought it was a good idea- might be cheaper than printing out a whole new poster too! My poster ended up costing 60$ for semi gloss, ~36" x 48". At least I didn't have to pay for it!

I wish there was a little more free time though. Talks/presentation from 8:30am-11:00pm (lunch/short breaks/dinner inbetween) is fairly brutal. Some talks were very interesting, while some fell short. I was surprised that I found the plant talks very interesting since I avoided taking any botany related courses. I talked to two poster-presenting people on the last day and discovered that other peoples' research = very interesting when you understand what they're trying to do! I think I might like poster presentations more because you can stop and ask questions to clarify. There was no way that I'd stop and ask a (dumb) question during a TALK when you're in a room full of masters/phd/postdocs/pdfs ! Too intimidating!

I was happy that I brought fatty pinkey with me! The conference was a gong show at night because they had kegs of (free) beer + wine during the poster session. I got to see my TA and profs get DRUNK.



Yes I know I haven't been around much. My parents are visiting and I have still been spending long hours at school. There's a bit of drama so...........

School is also winding down - meaning I have oral presentations + exams + research papers to do.

I did get my microSD card in the mail today (from DX) so I'll have to try it out once I get a little more time!
